POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the server administration and daily server operations, the telephony systems, and enterprise applications, including making recommendations regarding selection of hardware, software, upgrades, installations, troubleshooting of server related hardware and software, and supervisory responsibility over the help desk and desktop support.  Primary duties involve exercising discretion and independent judgment in matters of significance to planning and coordinating server, telephony, and help desk support administration to ensure that College goals and objectives are achieved.  Serves as the second in charge of the IT department as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  1. Plans, guides, reports, and coordinates the work of server and application administration ensuring departmental goals and objectives are achieved while maintaining an appropriate cyber and physical security posture by implementing and following established best practices, and supporting compliance with policies, mandates, and laws.  on the deployment of servers, both physical and virtual: cabling, power, and the equipment racks, coordinates with facilities to ensure proper power availability and conditioning, providing effective cooling, ventilation, and environmental controls, as well as physical security and fire prevention, detection, and suppression.  Supervises the Help Desk operations and the work of the Information Technology Technicians.
  1. Responsible for the administration and setup of the help desk software and desktop support operations.
  1. Responsible for establishing and meeting service level agreements.  Oversees the operation and maintenance of the telecommunications network including phone setup and deployment, monitoring the communication network, coordinating upgrades, and troubleshooting system problems.
  1.  Serves as the lead with troubleshooting and resolving system problems at the server and enterprise application levels; and upgrades same levels of architecture to maximize productivity and meet overall business needs.
  1.  Ensures that server-based applications remain operational on a 24×7 basis, minimizing downtime, and planning outages to minimize the impact to system users.  Provides necessary after hours support for problem resolution, upgrades, patching of enterprise servers and operating systems software, developing end of life (EOL) migration plans, including purging data and software from retired systems.
  1. Works with other vendors to maintain and support multiple Enterprise systems including, but not limited to Microsoft Office 365, MS Exchange, MS SQL, Active Directory, VMware, and Server Lifecycle management tools.
  1. Defines and manages projects when needed for software and hardware implementations to ensure the completion of project objectives in a timely manner.  Installs and configures server operating systems, approves firmware updates, system and security patches and updates, and ensures proper testing with both physical and virtual server environments.
  1.  Involved with disaster recovery procedures working with Administrators using BackupExec and Exagrid.
  1.   Provides customer service to students, faculty, staff, and other third-party entities with diagnosing and solving computer and software problems to include help tickets escalated from desktop support.
  1. Responsible for updating the IT equipment inventory system and coordinates with Desktop Support personnel to ensure accurate inventory of hardware.
  1. Ensures support staff are consulted with regarding all aspects of server system, enterprise applications administration, and backup operations.
  1. Provides necessary onsite network support to Network Team.
