Overview:  We are seeking a skilled Database Migration Specialist to assist in the conversion of a Sybase database to DB2 within a short-term contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing the existing Sybase database structure, developing migration strategies, executing the migration process, and ensuring seamless integration with the DB2 environment. This position requires expertise in both Sybase and DB2 databases, as well as proficiency in database migration tools and techniques.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze the existing Sybase database schema, data models, and stored procedures.
• Develop a comprehensive migration plan outlining steps, timelines, and dependencies.
• Assess compatibility and identify potential challenges or issues in migrating from Sybase to DB2.
• Design and implement data migration scripts and procedures to transfer data from Sybase to DB2.
• Collaborate with the IT team to ensure proper configuration and setup of the DB2 environment.
• Perform thorough testing and validation of migrated data to ensure accuracy and integrity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any migration-related issues or discrepancies.
• Provide documentation and training to support ongoing maintenance and administration of the DB2 database.
• Ensure compliance with data security and regulatory requirements throughout the migration process.
• Communicate progress, status updates, and any roadblocks to stakeholders as needed.

Requirements: 

• Proven experience in database migration projects, particularly from Sybase to DB2.
• In-depth knowledge of Sybase and DB2 database platforms, including SQL syntax, data types, and performance optimization techniques.
• Proficiency in database migration tools such as IBM Data Movement Tool, IBM InfoSphere Replication Server, or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address potential migration challenges.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results within tight deadlines.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python, Shell) for data migration and automation.
• Familiarity with data modeling concepts and database design principles.
• Knowledge of IT security best practices and data protection regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in Sybase or DB2 administration.
• Previous experience working in a financial, healthcare, or regulatory compliance environment.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and project management tools.
• Experience with performance tuning and optimization in DB2 environments.
• Knowledge of other database systems such as Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
